I an assistant professor at UMass Lowell in the Biology department, also affiliated with the Center of Biomedical and Health Research in Data Sciences. I’m excited to work with Biology students at all levels to make discoveries about the origins of disease.
My goal is to discover health conditions, medical treatments, or other exposures that change risk of disease, by linking health data to molecular data. These results can uncover how the disease works and identify interventions to prevent and treat it.
Hello, my name is Anugrah Vaishnav. I am currently a graduate student pursuing an MS in Computer Science at UMass Lowell. I’m excited about research in exploring the applications of machine learning and data science in the fascinating realms of biomedical informatics and computational biology. Post-graduation, my aspiration is to work in an industry where I can further apply these cutting-edge technologies and knowledge to advance research and healthcare solutions, with the long-term goal of pursuing a PhD to deepen my expertise.
I’m Aylinh Eng, and I’m a senior with a biology major and a psychology minor. Prior to working in the lab, I had research experience studying the narratives of child sexual abuse and financial literacy of individuals with autism. I’m also conducting research on the impact of COVID-19 as part of my honors thesis. I hope to attend graduate or medical school in the future. In my spare time, I volunteer at a local rape crisis center and hospice organization.
I’m a Computer Science major doing a minor in Biomedical Engineering and Technology. I am putting my efforts into learning about data science and hopefully AI and Machine Learning and how they can interact with the field of biology despite being new to all of this. I am happy to have joined Dr. Rachel Melamed’s lab at the beginning of summer 2021. I hope to go to grad school for a masters in Computer Science.
I am David Hamel-Sellman, an undergraduate math major at UMass Lowell. I have concentrated my education towards computer science and biotech and I hope to gain data science work experience and/or pursue higher education once I graduate next year. I am a motivated Honors and Professional Co-Op student and I have enjoyed the opportunity to work in Dr. Rachel Melamed’s Computational Biology Lab since February 2021. In my free time I love to be active whether it’s hiking, biking, skiing, or playing club sports.
George Gikas joined the lab during his freshman year. His major is Applied Biomedical Sciences. After UMass Lowell, he will apply to and enroll in medical school. In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball and spending time with those close to him.
Hello, I am Jakob Mikhaylov. I am an undergraduate student in the Biology department taking the Biotechnology focus. I am interested in understanding the genetics behind cancers and potentially using them to develop better treatments for the cancers. I am planning on going to graduate school for a PhD after I complete this program. In my free time I like reading, both fiction and nonfiction, and writing, again both fiction and not fiction.
